D Day + Pegasus Bridge veterans multi signed book

D Day + Pegasus Bridge veterans multi signed book

A Photographic History World War 2 – Photographs by the Daily Mail signed by 6 veterans of D Day and Normandy including 2 that landed by Horsa Gliders to take Pegasus Bridge in the first action of D Day.

The book itself is a large format (10 x 12.5 inches) hardback with 256 pages that includes hundreds of superb black and white photos and accompanying text that illustrates all the major events of World War 2. It is in brand new unread condition.

To make it very special I got it signed by 6 veterans that all took part in the Allied invasion of occupied Europe, in this the 65th anniversary year of D-Day.

Those that have signed this book are:

  • Sergeant ‘Tich’ Raynor who landed as part of the ‘Coup de Main’ operation to capture Pegasus Bridge just after midnight in the first action of D-Day. He landed in Glider number 4. He told me he was one of the last out of Dunkirk and one of the first in on D-Day!
  • Private Billy Gray, the first man out of Glider number 1 in the Coup de Main operation, therefore the first man to actually be in action on occupied Europe on D-Day
  • Acting Leading Seaman Idris Picton, Royal Navy who was a Coxwain on a Landing Craft Tank vessel. He had previously taken part in several landings in North Africa
  • Gunner Ernie Brewer, landed on Gold Beach on D-Day with the 5th RHA as part of the 7th Armoured Division who were known as the ‘Desert Rats’
  • Lance Corporal Harry Hopkins, landed on D-Day on Gold Beach with the 1st Battalion Rifle Brigade who were also part of the 7th Armoured Division, the ‘Desert Rats’
  • Vic Evans, Royal Navy, who was a Telegraphist on HMS Nith on D-Day. HMS Nith was the HQ for the British Landings on Day and after landing troops from 231 Brigade she controlled the routing of convoys to the assault beaches. The telegraphists had received special training so as to be able to handle multiple signals. As it was vital she could easily be seen and recognised she was painted bright red making her an obvious target!!

A great book with some great signatures, this would also be ideal for adding further signatures to if you got the chance. I took a few pictures on the day which are a bit blurry but where you can see them signing items for me which You can see by clicking on the links below:
