Airship flown Alex Henshaw commemorative postal cover in presentation frame.

This is a very nicely illustrated postal cover dedicated to the famous World War 2 Spitfire test pilot Alex Henshaw, who sadly died recently. In addition to it being a great looking item it was actually flown just prior to the 1980 RAF Cosford Air Display in the Goodyear Airship Europa N2A over part of the route that Alex Henshaw used to take when he was testing the Spitfires!

It is nicely framed with a bevel cut mount in a 12 x 10 inch frame.

Also in the frame is the original information card that came with the cover giving details of Alex Henshaws life and amazing achievements. Prior to becoming the Chief Test Pilot at the Castle Bromwich factory he had already achieved widespread fame as one of the most successful pre war air racers and record breaking distance pilots with many of the record flights still standing today. In addition to all this he had received an award for saving a drowning boy from a river when he was only 12 himself, and in 1953 received a Queens Commendation for bravery following a sea flood catastrophe!!

A truly remarkable man.
